Kate and Sarah had a wedding day full of so much love. They met years prior and became best friends, which slowly turned into an epic love. Their day was full of their local favorites, like Skyline Chili and Mickey’s Cheesicles! Oh and of course their favorite beer from the incredible venue, Rhinegeist. We had so much fun through out the day, but my favorite moment was their first look; they had never seen each other’s wedding gowns before and on top of that had so many emotions leading up to the day they said ‘I do’. We all were in tears at their sweet exchange!
From the happy couple:
“Sarah and I met in 2012 while going to school at Ohio State. We were involved in the same organization and happened to live in the same dorm. We became fast friends and then quickly fell in love following our friendship. Things were difficult with coming out to friends and family, but the hardship only made our relationship stronger.”
The proposal:
“We both talked about proposals and who would propose first. I am the unlikely candidate for the first proposal, which is what made the proposal so perfect. We were in Chicago visiting friends when we visited The Bean. We were getting our picture taken when I turned to Sarah to begin to tell her how much I love her and do the whole “proposal” talk. She kept telling me how I was being rude and that our friends were taking our picture, so I ditched my speech and got down on one knee. She was so caught off guard and surprised and we had beautiful pictures to remember the morning.
Sarah proposed to me three months later after taking me to a concert of the band that sings our first dance song. She took me up to a hill in Nashville that overlooks the entire city. The entire day was filled with a scavenger hunt to unscramble clues around the city where it ended in the sweetest, most private proposal. Exactly matching our personalities.”
The wedding day:
“Our wedding was simple and beautiful and industrial. We had the ceremony and reception in a local brewery. There are exposed brick walls and wooden beams and lights strung all over the beams. The venue is so naturally beautiful that we would not have needed to decorate at all. We decided on entirely green bouquets for both Sarah and I, and green bouquets for our bridesmaids with one single white flower. We wanted to keep everything simple, but allow everyone to show their individual style. We wanted to have the wedding in the brewery because we are a nontraditional couple. We decided to have our favorite food, Skyline Chili, as a caterer because we love that all our family and friends love it as well.”
“We allowed our bridesmaids to choose the color and style of their dress to match their personality! Everyone picked the absolute perfect dress for themselves. From powder pink to rose gold, from strapless to sleeved, we had a wide range of dress colors and styles and they were all so perfect. My brother was the only boy in the wedding and he wore khaki pants and suspenders and a pink bow tie. I cannot get over how beautiful everyone looked together. I wore my grandmother’s wedding ring the whole day, which meant so much to me.”
“We splurged on our venue, on the exposed brick walls and amazing rooftop bar that we were able to take pictures on. We splurged on an amazing photographer that made us feel beautiful and confident. She is patient and clearly loves her job so incredibly much. We did not really skip much, except a videographer. We had a friend capture some video, but we did not invest in someone to capture the day. We had such a good time and the pictures were able to capture the best parts.”
“We loved getting ready with all of our bridesmaids and then the look on everyone’s faces when we walked down the aisle. I don’t think there was one dry eye in the entire room. We loved sharing vows and getting the opportunity to be with all of our family and friends. Our favorite part of the day, though, was getting to dance with each other, then our dads, and then all of our friends and family.”
